Charles Titus Inducted Into LEC Hall of Fame | City of Boston

Associate Boston Parks Commissioner Charles Titus will be adding to a long list of accomplishments as he is inducted into the Little East Conference Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Providence, RI, in late October.

One of the most prominent and respected names in all of college athletics, Charlie Titus has been the face of UMass Boston athletics for over three decades.? He has served the City of Boston as a member of the Boston Parks and Recreation Commission for more than 30 years.?? The Commission establishes policy for the Parks Department and reviews development projects, large and small, that abut parks and parkways in order to ensure the protection of public greenspace in Boston.

Currently serving as the Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Recreation, Special Projects, and Intramurals, Titus has been instrumental not only in the growth of UMass Boston athletics, but also college athletics as a whole in New England and the country.? He also played an integral role in the formation and development of the Little East Conference, which has established itself as the premiere Division III athletic conference in New England.? For his contributions to the Little East Conference, Titus was named to the inaugural Hall of Fame class and will be inducted on October 27.

Titus grew up in Roxbury and attended Boston Technical High School before attending Saint Michael's College.? As a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics he has played a major part in developing policies that have shaped college athletics.? Titus has also served on the NCAA Division III Membership Committee, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Board of Directors, as past Chair of the ECAC Basketball Commemorative Officials Committee, and is a past member of the NCAA Regional Basketball Committee.

Over the last 13 years, Titus has been inducted into three different Halls of Fame: Saint Michael's College, where he was a standout basketball player before graduating in 1972; the UMass Boston Hall of Fame in honor of his tremendous contributions to the university; and one of the greatest honors any coach can hope to receive, the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. ??

The Little East Conference officially began in 1986 as a playing conference for men's and women's basketball among six New England institutions: Eastern Connecticut State University, Plymouth State University, Rhode Island College, UMass Dartmouth, UMass Boston, and the University of Southern Maine. From the beginning, the conference was officially recognized by the NCAA.

The number of sports in the conference has grown to include men's and women's soccer, baseball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor track, men's and women's outdoor track, men's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis and volleyball, as well as the original men's and women's basketball. ?The number of participating institutions rose to eight with the addition of Western Connecticut State University and Keene State College.
